European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT)
The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is a body of the EU based in Budapest which was established to promote innovation through pan-European partnerships between universities, research institutes and companies. EIT is an integral part of the Horizon 2020 programme and it is divided into several so-called EIT Innovation Communities (EITs) focusing on different societal challenges.
The EIT Innovation Communities operate in Innovation Hubs that are spread across the EU. The individual communities formulate their own ambitions and programmes. In this way, the individual EITs provide dedicated funding opportunities for initiatives that are in line with their objectives. The instruments of the EITs most relevant for circular city initiatives can be found on the following pages:
The proposed budget for the EIT during the 2021-2027 period as well as its rationale, including areas of intervention, broad lines of activity and performance indicators are outlined in the proposal for Horizon Europe .
